India are set to take on Maldives in the first semi-final of the SAFF Championships at the Trivandrum International Stadium, Kerala on Thursday afternoon.
The Blue Tigers come into the game on the back of an impressive performances in the group stages which saw them defeat both Sri Lanka and Nepal to top the standings in Group A. Stephen Constantine's men had to break little sweat to cruise past their opponents in the tournament so far, but are set to face a stern challenge against Maldives.
Star striker Robin Singh has been ruled out of the competition due to a knee injury.
"The MRI revealed that his knee problem is a bit more serious that we had expected. The doctors have advised us that he will need 10 days rest before undergoing another MRI,” Constantine said.

“It’s a blow and a loss for us. He had started to score for the national team on a regular basis and is such a hard working guy,” he added.
The absence of the Bengaluru FC forward could see Lallianzuala Changte earn his first start. The Mizoram striker scored twice against Nepal after coming on as a substitute.
History suggests though that India will have the upper hand against the Island nation. They have won 10 of their 14 encounters against the Red Snappers and have lost just on two occasionsa
Rickie Herbet's men have impressed with their fine all round display in the tournament so far. Barring the 4-1 defeat to Afghanistan, Maldives have been one of the most attacking sides in the competition. Captain Ali Ashfaq has led from the front with two goals in three matches.
"I'm confident our team after a good rest can beat India," said Herbert.
The game kicks off at 3:30PM on 31st December, 2015 as both sides look to grasp a place in the finals of the tournament.
