Club officials have travelled to Italy to discuss terms for the Lazio star, who could arrive at Old Trafford shortly

Manchester United are closing in on a £35 million deal for Lazio forward Felipe Anderson, according to The Sun.

Club officials have travelled to Rome to discuss terms with the 22-year-old who could arrive at Old Trafford as early as next week.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is happy for the Red Devils to splash out once again, despite a summer of heavy investment.

Any concrete move would suggest Louis van Gaal's position as manager is secure despite the side's current dismal run of form.

Manchester United hold talks for £35m-rated Lazio star Felipe Anderson as Southampton remain unwilling to sell Sadio Mane

  • Manchester United have continued to monitor Lazio's Felipe Anderson
  • Brazilian playmaker was a summer target and would add creativity to side
  • United also considering Sadio Mane but Southampton do not want to sell

Manchester United have held further talks about signing Lazio playmaker Felipe Anderson in their search for a new creative midfielder.
The 22-year-old Brazilian was a summer target for Louis van Gaal and Old Trafford scouts have continued to monitor his progress in Rome, with Lazio valuing the player at £35million.
United still hold reservations about a move for Sadio Mane - the subject of a failed bid in August - with Southampton unwilling to sell one of their key men in January.

Anderson, who has five goals from midfield this season, has attracted attention from some of Europe's top clubs but a deal is not done yet.
Mane would provide an alternative option - and one with proven Barclays Premier League pedigree - but Ronald Koeman and Co plan to reject any advances for the 23-year-old.
United have struggled from a lack of firepower this season, scoring the second-fewest goals in the top half of the Premier League including five goalless draws.

Van Gaal identified a lack of pace and creativity as a key problem in his side earlier in the season but despite an outlay over three transfer windows of £250m, he is still searching.
One issue with a move for Anderson would be his ineligibility for United's Europa League campaign, as he has already featured four times in the competition for his current club.
The January window opens on Saturday ahead of United's home game against Swansea City where they will search for a first win in nine games in all competitions.
