Tehran: Palestine finished their unsuccessful 2016 AFC U-23 Championship qualifying campaign on a winning note on Tuesday when a 4-0 triumph over Nepal saw the West Asians finish third in Group C.
Mohammed Maraaba gave Palestine a one-goal cushion going into the interval at the PAS Stadium before adding to his 31st minute strike with his second in the 63rd minute.
Nepal’s two-goal deficit became a three-goal deficit just sixty seconds later when Fadi Zidan got the first of his double with the forward, who scored twice for Wadi Alness in their 6-2 AFC Cup win over Al Shorta prior to hooking up with the under 23s for the Qatar 2016 qualifiers, sealed the win with ten minutes of their final fixture remaining.
Palestine’s second Group C win was not enough for them to remain in the reckoning for a possible place in the finals as one of the five best runners-up as Abdulnasser Barakat’s side bowed out of the competition with a creditable third-place finish above Afghanistan and Nepal, who lost all four of their Group C games without scoring a single goal.
